Write for us
We welcome clear, original pitches that help readers notice how designed things work. A good proposal starts with a specific object, image, room, building or shared place and a question that can be answered without inflated claims.
What to propose
We consider explanatory pieces, thoughtful comparisons, design history and close readings of particular features. Strong pitches make the subject and central idea clear, show why a general reader might care, and explain what makes the piece distinct from familiar design commentary.
How to pitch
Send a short summary of the proposed piece, its main point, the kind of material you would draw on and a brief note about your approach. Please identify any relevant commercial interests. Uncommissioned full articles are not a substitute for a proposal.
Where to send it
Send proposals through the Contact page and choose the editorial question option. We cannot promise a response or publication, and a pitch should not assume that an idea has been commissioned.
Design is made of choices
We look beyond whether something looks good to ask how its form, materials and setting shape the way people use it.
